GWR - Business Forms

Part of FirstGroup, Great Western Railways is one of the UK’s largest train operators, serving more than 100 million passengers a year.

What they needed

GWR were looking for a web development partner that could run, maintain, and improve a web application that housed their business forms. This application covered all operational areas from HR and finance to IT equipment and uniform requests.

Due to the diverse requirements of the different user types involved, from drivers to office staff, the web application needed to function perfectly across multiple devices.

What we did

We inherited a web application that allowed its 6000 users to access over 180 forms from across the business. Since taking on responsibility for the business forms application, we have continued to make improvements to the functionality and UX. We also maintain the web application servers and maintain server security integrity.

Among the improvements made to the application, we have increased and refactored the form categories for a better user experience. We also built an integration with GWR’s internal systems, so users can log straight in through Azure active directory and do not need a separate log-in.

The web application now allows the business to manage all requests through one application. The addition of a separate mobile application that we developed, has also meant that their diverse user base is served better as it allows the forms to be accessed and submitted on the device that best meets their needs.

How we did it

We continue to work closely with the project team through regular meetings regarding functionality and continued improvements. Now so custom and integrated, the business forms application is a central and fundamental part of their business operations.
